Even though licensed games usually have the NZGamer crew running for our lame game-proof underground bunker beneath the Basin Reserve, we have to say that this is one game based on a TV series we are actually looking forward to. While it may just be that in some ways it reminds us of the good old days playing the old Simpsons games on the MegaDrive in DEKA after school, it could also be because - again like the Simpsons – we are all big fans. And it looks like this is one licence that is being made with us in mind.

All of the voice actors from the cartoon are on board, the game is scripted by the Family Guy team and the visuals look to be very faithful to the show. All our favourite characters are set to make appearances throughout the show game. Of course, where would the show be without its cutting edge humour? Luckily the game looks to be taking no prisoners in this regard and will feature a lot of strange, sick and plain random humour. Hooray!

So what about the game? This is where many licenses ultimately fall apart. Well hopefully this will be excluded from the normal rules as the developers are apparently taking an old school-style approach to the action/arcade/platforming genres. Each character will have their own storyline, stages and abilities to mix things up a tad.

There’s a lot of potential for this game to be every bit the sleeper hit the cartoon once was. To fans of the show, as long as everything comes together, this ought to be a fun romp with lots of familiar characters and in-jokes. Sure it’s not the next Grand Theft Auto, Zelda or Halo and won’t change the way we play games, but does every game have to be? We are expecting a fun romp filled with humour – hopefully the way games used to be made (sometimes).
