Yeah, anyone who's been to Armageddon (the sci fi con, not the biblical end of the world) probably know what cosplay is.
You know that weirdo dressed up as some obscure anime character with too much hairspray, bright coloured elbow pads, and an uncomfortably large amount of make-up?
Yeah, that guy. that's cosplay.

 

 

That is indeed cosplay, and boy... it's geeky.

 

It's a higher level of geek that I could ever obtain. Like level 80 Paladin in WoW, or having a level 100 Scyther.
(K, so I *did* have a level 100 Scyther, but it was strong against phsychic types OK?)
To be so committed to something and be so into it that you dress as fictional characters?

 

Actually, it's even worse than that - because it's not like
they go down the local costume store and hire it... they MAKE the bloody things!

Somewhere out there, somebody turned down a hot date (pudding) to go cut out and spraypaint their big f*** off cardboard sword.

 

 

Does it stop there? No. They act that s*** out. WTF?

 

I like playing Rainbox 6: Vegas 2. Really like shooting a terrorist in the head because, you know - I want to stop them from spreading their hate upon the world. However this does not mean I'll be adorning a bullet-proof vest and shaving a Desert Eagle out of polystyrene. Nor does it mean I'm going outside to hug walls and climb down ropes. It just means I'm going to shoot things and make them die in a game. Full stop. IT ENDS THERE.

See, I judge them... but at the same time - I'm kinda impressed by their level of hardoutedness. And I'm kinda jealous. Well, not jealous, but I wasn't blatantly, blatantly lying about the impressiveness.

 

You gotta be passionate about something to put red crap in your hair and rip an otherwise perfectly fine T-shirt. The sacrifice of having to swallow your pride go down to Arthur Toye for a red cape? Man. You're a braver man than me.
