The PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP are, ironically, now becoming the bastions of original and quirky IPs that are often unusual in this day and age of the video game commodity. The latest addition to their libraries is the bizarre Echochrome.
The most striking feature of Echochrome is the fact that the game features simple black and white graphics. If to one it seems like a downside, then obviously the gameplay is too cerebral and one should look elsewhere: perhaps to some game with guns and blood.
Echochrome requires players to guide a mannequin around various complex levels by rotating the camera to hide obstacles. For example, if there is a hole in the floor, simply rotating the camera so that the hole is obscured by a pillar will allow the mannequin to pass unscathed.
Although the premise seems simple in theory, in practice it is anything but. Fiendish levels will taxe the minds and reflexes of even the most skilled of players. Patience is a virtue, but in Echochrome it will prove mandatory. Only those with a sound mind or body will progress through the game’s countless stages.
Echochrome is scheduled as a PSN download for both the PS3 and PSP. The game is shaping up to be another cult classic original IP, so keep it locked to NZGamer for a full review in the near future.
