A new MMO is being released this year that will serve as the genesis of DC Comics' media saturation. With countless books, movies and games already out, DC are bringing comic book fans a game where they can truly become a part of the DC Universe.
DC Universe Online does what no other game has done before, and condenses nearly the entire range and breadth of DC characters in one online world. As the player, you can pick and choose, deciding on the path of good, or the path of evil. And the point? Be as good, or as down and dirty, as possible.
The game has a huge focus on physical ability – that is, as a superhero, when you want to be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, you can. In fact, for the purpose of a game like DC Universe Online, this almost constitutes physical reality.
Playable characters are numerous, and you’ll be able to customize and tweak as you’d expect. When it comes down to it, like most MMOs, there’ll be some playability built into the game, and the rest you’ll have to go make yourself. Being that this little gem will be appearing on the PS3 and PC, oh, yeah, and the fact it has ‘Online’ in the title, you’ll get that extra playability in PVP interactions.
Action has been an extremely important word in the developer's lexicon, and they know that DC fans want to be able to engage with their characters and their nemeses in the same way they do on paper. This is becoming increasingly easy to cater for, but even so, early screenshots and videos show that they have really worked hard on putting together environments and abilities that compliment each other when it comes to throwing down.
This is definitely one to watch, as a fan of MMOs, or a fan of comics. Then again, this game will probably appeal to anyone who wants to step into a brand new world (no, Universe) and wreak havoc. With the recent success of the Dark Knight, you can imagine that DC Universe Online is going to hit like a meteor.
