Armageddon 2008 Preview

What's happening at Armageddon this year?

It’s that time of the year again: the biggest sci-fi/gaming/anime event of the year, Armageddon, is returning to Wellington this weekend - and it couldn’t be any bigger. This year, two guest Wrestlers will in attendance to take on wrestlers from Impact Pro Wrestling, Madman will be screening the latest anime and NZGamer will be there with the latest games!

So you’re about to step in the door loaded with cash ready to spend. Here’s what will be on offer to blow that hard-earned cash on: Madman will be there with the latest anime at bargain bin prices; Pulsar-Max will be selling sci-fi/anime figures; and The Gamesman will be selling games at rock bottom prices.

Once you’re done with the shopping you can check out the events. This year the Pillow Fight, Dragonball Z ‘kamehameha’ contest, and the Animation Music Video contest and Trading card Tournaments will return; while new events include the Ice Cream eating contest and the Bubblegum Blowing contest. Weta Workshop will also be there along with their Halo Warthog – a Wellington Armageddon exclusive!

As usual, NZGamer will be there with the latest - and unreleased – games to check out. Although we can’t say which titles will be there yet, you might say “Wii are excited”. Keep it locked onto NZGamer for the official word later in the week. Sony NZ will also have a PlayStation 3 area featuring Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

And to top that, two wrestling guests will be in action with Impact Pro Wrestling. They are of course ECW/WWE/WCW hardcore legend Scott “Raven” Levy and WCW superstar Disco Inferno, both of whom will be signing autographs, then getting in the ring with the best of our IPW superstars. Madman will be showing off their latest license anime including: Shakugan No Shana, Death Note, Witch Blade and My-Z-Otome in the screening room.

As usual Armageddon will be packing animation, comic and celebrity guests:

  • Animation guests include: Liam O'Brien (Naruto), Spike Spencer (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Susan Blakeslee (Fairly Odd Parents) and Hynden Walch (Teen Titans), Lisa Furukawa (Animation Singer Guest)

  • Comic guests include: Marv Wolfman (Teen Titans/Crisis on Infinite earths), Christian Gossett (The Red Star/Electra: The Hand)

  • Celebrity guests include: Christopher Judge (Stargate SG1), Matthew John Armstrong (Heroes) Tracey Scoggins (Babylon 5 / Crusade / Lois and Clark), Gary Graham (Aliennation, Star Trek Enterprise)

So get on down to Wellington this weekend for what promises to be the best Armageddon ever!
