Lo and behold! Quality TV hath returned...eth.
It's not often that a TV show can come along slapping me in the face saying ”Hey! Hey!”, then continue by calling me a “Dickwad!”, and conclude by saying “TV is good again, man.”
For the longest time I avoided TV like the plague - most of what was on it was sh*t (reality TV killed TV for me). Fair enough, right? The problem with this is that you don't get to experience the goodness hidden within. 24 was the only show posing exception to my previous pact with the box, so when I heard from a friend that Prison Break was as good as 24, I said, “Whatever, you big fat liar!”.
Then I actually watched it.
Needless to say, after watching the first two episodes on TV, I managed to watch the rest of the series via other means. Prison Break is flippin' great. Just like 24, you don't quite know what to expect, and every episode pulls you along its intelligent strings to leave you wanting more (and waiting for next week to come sooner, be that the case).
After this I wanted more good TV injected into my veins. There's Lost...but unfortunately - and it pains me to use this pun - it appears the writers seem to have lost the plot in the second season. Pass. Grey's Anatomy? Uh, yeah, nah. House? A show about an intelligent and violently sarcastic doctor (who barely gives a crap about his patients) finding out what's wrong with his patients via Sherlockian methods? Where should I put the injection? House is brilliant - season one is only $49.95 at Whitcoulls at the moment, with season two being released in November (overseas) for slightly more. Though House caters to a different audience, it still pisses all over Shortland Street.
Then I stumbled across the Blade series, based on the hit trilogy. Yeah, it's not screening in New Zealand yet. The series starts off horribly, but as it progresses, and plotlines unravel, it becomes quite enjoyable, if only in a guilty pleasures sort of way. It doesn't hurt that Jill Wagner is red-smokin'-hot in it either.
With Prison Break season two beginning next week in the states, Blade continuing to air, House season 2 on DVD in November (followed shortly by season three airing), and 24 Season 6 hitting in January, TV is looking mighty fine once again.
