Guild Wars: Rubbish Rumours

Guild Wars: Rubbish Rumours

Cast dispel! Vanquish rumour!

We brought you the world's first online Guild Wars: Factions review, then we brought you the first Guild Wars: Nightfall review. We would have brought you the first Guild Wars: Prophecies review but we were so hopelessly addicted that our respective families eventually had to hook us up IV drips to keep us alive for a couple of weeks...

...And now, we bring you the world's first Guild Wars: Eye of the North Rubbish Rumours feature.

Basically, we've scoured the internet for rumours regarding the upcoming expansion and mean to dispell the not-so-true ones. Some of the stuff people are preaching will shock you, but not as much as by the fact that people actually believe some of this stuff.

I heard that the Bear Edition of the game you pre-order from some stores online lets you play as the new race in Eye of the North!
You can pre-order Eye of the North online, and some places have a special 'Bear Edition' SKU you can order. This does not mean you can play as the new Bear race if you buy this version. What it means is that you look at an angry bear on the cover of your copy of Eye of the North when it arrives.

Insofar there have been two covers announced, one with Jora, and one with the nameless Bear.

The Sylvari aren't going to appear in Eye of the North! Only Guild Wars 2!
Wrong. The Sylvari won't feature very dominantly throughout Eye of the North's campaign but it has been confirmed several times that we will witness the birth of their race near the campaign's end. This acts as their introduction, and in Guild Wars 2 you'll be able to play as them. Kind of like how in Halo 2 you got to see a glimpse of the ending but have to wait until the sequel to experience properly.

The Collector's Edition is available only in the Guild Wars store!
This time around there'll be no Collector's Edition, online or otherwise. It's sad that we'll miss out, and even worse that we won't be able to get a physical CD of Jeremy Soule's fantastic score, so fingers crossed that Guild Wars 2 offers an incredible package.

I'm pretty awesome, so I managed to score an Asuran mini-pet! When I play Eye of the North it's going to transform into a Hero!
No. No it isn't. It's going to remain a mini-pet until the day you die (or your account is terminated for being stupid).

If you have both Eye of the North of World of Warcraft's new expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, your characters will be able to travel between the two games!
This is an interesting one, not only because it makes no sense for competing products to align themselves together, but because of how the rumour was born.

In the latest video for Eye of the North you get to see an area which in its simplest terms is a burning forest. In the latest trailer for Wrath of the Lich King you see a similar area.

Conclusions were drawn that they were the same area. Incorrect.

It should've been clear from the wider range of graphical effects in the Guild Wars video, if not from the fact that were they conjoined games it would be like saying Pepsi and Coke were teaming up to make a new Cola drink.

Eye of the North presents a new continent! I've seen it!
Unfortunately not. However, in saying that we instead get an extended map of Tyria, the continent from the first Guild Wars title, Prophecies.

Eye of the North is an expansion, so it isn't wise to expect as much content as previous campaigns (Factions and Nightfall) have offered.

...

That about wraps up the cream of the crop, however untasty that cream was. We'll be bringing you more Guild Wars coverage over the coming weeks so stay tuned!
