My 360 won't put out...

Why does M$ have to make everything needlessly difficult?

After finally making the jump and buying an xbox 360 I discovered you can't simultaneously use HDMI out while the component plug (necessary for optical audio out) is connected. So I'm left with the options of stripping the component plug of its plastic shell to make it fit, paying out for a M$ adaptor (not likely) or just settling for component video. Apparently this isn't a problem with the Elite models, which to me points toward M$'s awareness of the problem but not caring about anyone but the most hardcore gamerz with BIG wallets.

If only my receiver could manage something more than video-only HDMI switching I wouldn't be in this mess.

And then I discover that the 360 doesn't have wifi capabilities out of the box. My PSP has wifi, hell the wii has wifi! So in lieu of shelling out more money to M$, I have to use my laptop as a makeshift wifi adaptor.

I don't remember having this many problems with my Master System (and that had Alex the Kidd built in! What games have you got built in 360? Exactly.)

Can anyone recommend a good (read: inexpensive) place to buy optical audio leads?

Holy crap, you're right.
I've lived my entire life under the false belief that it was Alex THE Kidd.
This is world-shattering news.
If you'll excuse me, I have to go and re-evaluate my life. I've got some serious questions to ponder about other retro game titles I may have erroneously taken for granted. (Super the Mario; Sonic Hedgehog; Wonder the Boy)

This is why it always pays to do a bit of research before going out and buying something or even ask the useless storeman questions that he could possibly answer, but proberly not.lol

No offense intended. I'm genuinely amazed (and amused) that I'd never picked up on that before.

Just another notch on a long list of things I misheard in my youth and have been corrected on in adulthood.

My 360 came with Hexic 2 on the hard drive. I agree, it's silly that 360 doesn't have built in wifi, while ps3 and Wii do cost saving I guess.

Can't you get an optical audio (red, white) from your TV to your sound system?
They're really quite cheap and available from most electronics stores

check out totalsignal.com for any type of cable. Shame the exchange rate has just gone the wrong way. otherwise you may get cheap optical cables from trademe
