As many a gamer will ponder at some point in time is whether or not to keep the stack of games from the last gen / current gen in their collection. Either for the lack of using them or the knowledge that one cannot part with it for a decent price or still may one day pick it up and enjoy the game like it was 2002 (PS2 being my first baby). The retro, the old the classic games then sometimes seem to jump in price! When the end of the generation saw the games retail at $20 they now bump up to $35 or even $60 and you suddenly realise you’d pay that much today....
I am thinking personally about one of my favourite games of all time Crash Team Racing for Playstation 1. A quick look on trade shows that all retail for forty bucks plus, pre loved ‘okay’ condition nothing mint a mile off. I of course retained my copy and even brought the PSN version but my mint copy without even a finger print on the disc could sell for $60 (maybe) intrigues me. CTR is not a rare game, crash was the biggest and ‘best’ series in the era with every kid having it as a MUST have, think of it as a Halo or Modern warfare of the generation. Could everyone have just thrown out some gold disk? was everyone strapped for cash or did no one care that much? It went platinum trillions sold EVERYWHERE where the hell did they all go?? They must have, otherwise the supply and demand wouldn’t occur surely...

^this shiz is gold
But what of those ‘other’ games, the sh*t that everyone hated on the ‘rare’ ones due to the low print runs say for example I retained my copy of Lair for 10 years or so would anyone buy it for say $60 when I paid $25? Yes yes they would (could) *looks at knight rider for PS2* Rated horribly with people saying it had looked like it was still in beta phase if that selling for $60 on trademe people are either incredibly naive or must find some sort of gold in the horribleness.... knight rider in all honesty is ‘collectable’ no doubt but other games are so horrible, they must just be so bad they are good. Maybe the ideas or uniqueness are the reason for their hideous enjoyment, the mechanics graphics or bizarre storyline keeps it fresh just like the horrible acting and over the top action in the knight rider series (1982 Version). Otherwise all you have is the nostalgia.

Srassy is properly the most knowledgeable in the ‘retro’ gaming sense on NZGamer and could provide a greater insight in games values and reasons for purchases of (in my view) overpriced games which you could just *..Cough...down... cough...* The box art is no doubt beautiful in some games or just hilarious in hindsight for others... but I like many others will continue to think shall I keep these? Sell’em or what?
I shall find out once I get past that 20 years old mark I believe....
What about you guys? Do you retain your games? Purchase oldies? Even deluge in games pre your creation?
Anyways... I’m off got some echo the dolphin to play ;)
