Fallout 3 came into the market with a lot of media attention. Everyone was raving about it and spending the over priced prices (thanks Gamewizz - RIP) and ripping the cd's into their respective consoles. I, for some reason missed out on all the buzz. I never bought the game, and never even thought about playing it unitl I saw it in United Video a few weeks back. That changed, for ever, my views on the game.
Story:
The story is really amazing. I dont say that often about games. This one really kept me interested and made me want to [spoiler] walk all that way to see Megaton be destroyed. From the first part of the game where you answer question to decide who you are, to crawling around on the floor when your a bady, to your 10th birthday party, its all awesome.
As a novie at RPG's i was amazed at the options I had to do quests. I LOVE the option to do this, or this. It reminds me of the Goosebumps books. I spent a little bit of time choosig wether to be good or evil, or tossing up wheter to walk a long way or teleport to another quest.
I give the story 10/10
Graphics:
The graphics are great. I only have a SD tv so I couldnt really see anything that blew me away. But, in saying that everything I did see was good. The bullets make good impacts into the ground. All the characters are detailed enough so that when you get close they still look great. Basically everything is good, and nothing is bad. Thats a nice way to sum it up.
8/10
Sound:
The sound is good. In some of the early missions where people are talking all around you, you can see it shine. When you move the camera the sound softens and becomes quieter. All the weapons soud good, and the distinctive ping of the BB gun lets you know its no big boys toy. The voice acting is good and match the movements of the characters nicely.
9/10
Value:
The value in this game is unprecidented. It reaches GTA IV levels with the amounts of quests you can do and the HUGE land mass that you can travel. The unofficial Fallout 3 wiki shows you hundreds of special and secret areas that you cant spend countless hours finding. This game is really worth the money, as it lasts twice as long as most games.
In conclusion Fallout 3 is a really, really good game. Its not perfect, but its a definite buy. Try to get it 2nd hand if you dont want to pay the high prices, but even if you do it will be worth every cent. I'd say it's underrated by the public and probaby should have gotten the GOTY award.
