GTA Pulled From Thailand After Copycat

New Era Interactive Media have requested shops to pull Grand Theft Auto 4 from their shelves in Thailand after a teen murdered a Taxi Driver. The 18 year old student says that he robbed and killed the taxi driver to see if it was ‘as easy as in the game’.

To be honest, this isn’t the type of news I like reporting on NZGamer, so for more details of this sick and disturbing event head over to Stuff for the full article.

I have to say, I find it hard to blame GTA. The student must have been a time-bomb. What if he got obsessed with any number of movies, historic events or books?

If he was really being true to the game, he would have driven off in the taxi and smashed it in to street signs, pedestrians and other motorists.

"Today it is a cab driver, but tomorrow it could be a video game shop owner." lol trying the scare shops into not selling it. I'm still yet to play this game >_>

The cops should have shot him repeatedly like in the game, even when hes lying dead on the ground.

See?! People always use GTA as an excuse to hate videogames! Even though it's not it's fault entirly, GTA gives video games a bad name.

He must have been pretty screwed up in the first place to be able to do that, the game just gave him the idea. Like Wozza said it could have been anything that could do that.

@ Geno: LOL. Then talk trash after he;s dies just like in the game to rub it in, then some cue card holder will run in front of him with the sign "Wasted".

WozzaReplyPosted by Wozza on 5 August 2008, 08:00PM
I got a parking ticket the other day Fox, I couldn't figure it out as it never happened to me in GTA. I wasn't even far enough from the car for it to dematerialize!

Dear god, just heard the 10pm news on the radio, and this story is leading the news! Apparently it's up to a 3 year jail term for stocking it, and 5 years for an online retailer.

They should just cut out the bits where you kill people and drive cars and do anything bad.

UbercuberReplyPosted by Ubercuber on 6 August 2008, 07:53AM
If GTA4 affected people, it would be in driving. People would drive normal cars and be all "why am I not driving on ice? - this feels....normal"

I think the religous fanatics and anti gamming lobby will have a field day. It is disturbing when you hear of 1 person out of millions who go to far and commit a crime this young man must be of very low intelligence if he has to go out and kill someone to see if it is as easy as the game any one who does an act like this is also commiting a crime against the entire gaming community as well, this is also an insult to the game developers.
I think if people who commit crimes and blame the game are really trying to say that they are mentally unstable but if you go out buy a game then do a crime then its Premeditated.

AnthonyReplyPosted by Anthony on 6 August 2008, 06:27PM
Lol he didn't do it because of the game, he's just saying it to get out of having a lethal injection by blaming it on something else. Too bad he'll probably fail but i guess it was worth a try...

LOL, that's so true! the driving controls on gta4 sucked, there was like zero traction.
