Final Fantasy XII Delayed

Square Enix recently stated that the next installment in the highly respected Final Fantasy series will not release until April 2005 at the earliest.

According to the Asahi Shinbun and Impress Gamewatch, Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII won't release on Square Enix's previously stated "winter to spring" period. During its midterm financial meeting today the company announced that the game will not be released during the current fiscal year. Square's fiscal year ends March 31, 2005.

Surprisingly, with no other big titles having been released by Square Enix in the past few months the company has still been able to earn 3.13 billion yen ($42.7 million NZD) in net profit during the six-month period ending September 30, 2004.

Final Fantasy XII goes back to the roots of the series by offering a sweeping storyline, a party setup, and character advancement. The game follows the exploits of main character Vaan who can join forces with at least two characters at the time. Final Fantasy XII is slated for an exclusive release on PlayStation 2.
