Nintendo Says Sorry E3 Sucked

"We are sorry about [the E3] media briefings, specifically for those who were expecting to see Nintendo show something about 'Super Mario' or 'Legend of Zelda.'" That's what Nintendo president Saturo Iwata recently said to Forbes.

There is no doubt that many hardcore gamers were disappointed with Nintendo's keynote address at E3 this year. Despite promises that there would be some great announcements for the hardcore, we got nothing. Instead, we got Cammie Dunaway The Camminator playing frisbee with a virtual dog. Joy.

Recently, key members of Nintendo have come forward to say that gamers should just realise that Nintendo isn't targeting them at E3 anymore, and that they should ease the pain by playing the games they already own.

However, Iwata has a somewhat more reasonable explanation for the lack of games that would appeal to the fans who have stuck with them through the hard times of the N64 and the Gamecube. "[T]he fact of the matter is the so-called 'big titles' need a long, long development period. ... We really didn't think this year's E3 media briefing was the time to do so."

It certainly makes a change from the usual Nintendo arrogance. Indeed, I quite like Iwata. (And who can hate the man that created the little pink marshmallow that is Kirby?) Indeed, his predecessor, Hiroshi Yamauchi, would have just told us all to STFU and keep buying his games, so it's quite nice to get something that resembles an apology.
