Nintendo Australia To Take Over NZ? (Confirmed)

For New Zealand, Nintendo has been in limbo since distributors Softprint Interactive went belly up. Indeed, it's been over a month now and no one has tried to pick up the distribution rights.

In this absence, marketing and distribution company All Interactive Distribution has set up shop in Auckland to make sure that Nintendo doesn't fade away in God's Own during the height of the Wii's international success.

However, a little birdy has been telling us a few interesting tidbits. It seems that since no one is keen to pick up the Nintendo license, Nintendo Australia is ready to step in and fix things. A.I.D will still continue as the distributor, but Nintendo Australia will be in charge of promotion and marketing.

Still a rumour for now, this is still interesting news. Nintendo fans across New Zealand have long cried out for Nintendo Australia to get involved in New Zealand. The biggest criticism about the Wii's success (or lack thereof) in New Zealand has been the amount of advertising and publicity for the wee machine. (See what I did there?)

With Nintendo Australia in charge of marketing, perhaps we will finally see some decent support for the machine in New Zealand. This is, of course, is if you are still in Nintendo's target market

Naturally, we will bring you more news on this as we get it. In the meantime, let us know what you think of this news, especially if you are a Nintendo fan. Are you hoping that with Nintendo Australia in charge the Wii will finally experience the success in New Zealand that it has been experiencing overseas? Or do you think that in the nearly two years since the Wii's launch that the boat has already sailed?

Update: 12:30pm, Tuesday 22nd, 2008

NZGamer.com can confirm that Nintendo Australia will take over the role of Marketing & PR for Nintendo in New Zealand.

NZGamer have just spoken with Nintendo Australia's Public Relations Coordinator, Heather Murphy, who said: "We’d like to assure gamers in New Zealand that we're currently sorting everything to make this change happen."

The success of Nintendo Australia has been well documented across the ditch. The Wii and DS have a huge following in Australia.

Keep it locked to NZGamer and we'll keep you in the loop.

I realise NZ is on the wrong side, but Australia didn't make such an awesome monster face the other way.

As a huge Nintendo fan, I can tell you that I was foaming at the mouth when I heard about Softprint's recievership, RIGHT BEFORE THE LAUNCH OF SSBB!!!
I think that this is a good idea though. Maybe we'll get a little bit more recognition?
