In some rather disappointing news, the public areas of Sony's virtual world Home will be region-specific. What does that mean? Forget about playing with anyone you might know in America or Japan. While you can still visit anyone's apartment, you won't be able to mingle with anyone outside of your region.
What this means for Kiwis is unknown. Although Sony promises an experience suited to the tastes of a particular region, we wonder how we will be grouped. Does this mean that we will only be able to play with other Kiwis? Will we be lumped in with Australians? Will we get lumped in with the greater continent of Europe under the ever continuing blanket of PAL?
If it is the latter, it's hard to appreciate how the experience could be considered tailored for Kiwi tastes -- things are quite different in Europe, after all. However, given that there are Australia-New Zealand servers for games like Warhawk, we have our fingers crossed that Home at least offers an experience somewhat recognisable to those of us Down Under.
To say that we at NZGamer are rather gutted about this decision would be a bit of an understatement. However, Home will still hopefully provide a sublime experience for PS3 owners. Keep it locked to NZGamer for more information about Home and the PSN as we get it.
I'm beginning to hate SOny more and more. I might have to stop buying their consoles and games from now on. I'm just fed up with their crappy region coding bull.
gah, thats a let down, im assuming there is some technical reason behind this as i dont think anyone can see how this could be a good thing. In time maybe it will change.......Can we get home to start with probably not worth complaining until we can try it.
