No PSN Video Store For New Zealand (Yet)

When Jack Tretton announced during Sony's E3 keynote speech that the PSN video download service would be available "tonight", Kiwi gamers wondered whether that meant we would get access to it.

Well, the answer is no. In fact, not only is the video store only available to people with access to the American store, it's only available to people in America. The service is IP locked, meaning that even if you wanted to try and work the system and download some of the content, you can't.

It's unsurprising, given the copyright issues around such things. Indeed, while the PS3 itself might be region-free for games, Blu-Ray movies are still region locked. Furstrated PlayStation fans should also remember that Microsoft's video service is not available in New Zealand largely for the same reasons.

It is not known whether or not the video store will be released in New Zealand at all, but we will definitely be getting in touch with Sony in order to find out. In the mean time, keep it locked to NZGamer for more information about the PlayStation Network as we get it.
