Sony Auctioning Signed GT5 PS3s

V8 Supercar legend Greg Murphy and A1 GP star Jonny Reid went head-to-head for the first time this morning at a one-off charity bash that saw the two Kiwi drivers battle it out behind the wheel for the first time ever.

With both drivers coming from different racing formats but being arguably the best in their respective fields, this unprecedented initiative provided a lucky group of assembled guests and racing fans a rare opportunity to see two great drivers battle it out courtesy of the world’s most realistic driving simulator, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

And with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue now featuring 71 stunning cars – including vehicles by Lotus, Aston Martin and Ferrari – it was appropriate that the backdrop for the glittering event was Auckland’s well established motoring mecca, Giltrap Prestige. To ensure the racing catered to the favoured disciplines of both drivers, a street race (London City) was used with a factory car (Audi R8), followed by a circuit track (Suzuka) with an F1 car (Ferrari).

Warwick Light, General Manager Sales and Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment, commented: “It’s well known that Gran Turismo on PlayStation is one of the most successful global gaming franchises ever. What we didn’t know, however, is who would come out on top this morning, and despite both drivers performing admirably, Greg Murphy managed to just take the win.”

But there was more on the line than bragging rights, dented egos, and glory. Sony Computer Entertainment NZ Ltd gifted $2,000 to Greg’s favourite charity, the Child Cancer Foundation, whilst both drivers also signed four customised PS3 Gran Turismo 5 Prologue gaming consoles.

These are set to be auctioned off to the public on TradeMe so that race fans around the country can get their own personalised memento from the day and raise further funds for the charities involved. To bid for the autographed, customised consoles race fans simply need to visit www.trademe.co.nz and enter the following phrase GT5 Prologue/PS3 Signed by Greg Murphy & Jonny Reid.
