In less than 24 hours X06 has already put the Tokyo Game Show to shame. Microsoft realise that what people want to hear about is games, not network speeds, and they supplied for that demand in spades.
The biggest announcement to come out of X06 so far is that New Zealand's Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are teamimg with Microsoft and Ensemble Studios to bring a real-time strategy game based on the Halo universe to Xbox 360. That's right, Halo Wars is a RTS game based on the Halo universe exclusively for Xbox 360.
Now that you've had a chance to wipe some of the drool from your chin, here is what little we know so far. Halo Wars marks a return of sorts to the original concept of Halo. It will have stories written by Jackson and Walsh in an attempt to blend film and games into one beautiful medium.
The game is a prequel, taking place before Halo. It will revolve around UNSC's first conflict with the deadly Covenant. Further details are unknown at this point, but rest assured that the idea of controlling a horde of Warthogs and Scorpions as they rush into battle, coupled with a story from an Oscar-winning duo means that Halo Wars looks set to be an instant classic.
Unfortunately, the trailer is pre-rendered, but at least Microsoft and Ensemble Studios are honest about it, unlike some people. The trailer, along with all other known information, is currently on the Halo Wars website.
Stay tuned for more information about this stunning game, and further updates on X06 as we get them! In the meantime, you can discuss this breaking news in our forums. What are you waiting for? Get posting!
