Factions Nominated For BAFTA

NCsoft Europe is pleased to confirm that its critically acclaimed global success, Guild Wars Factions, has been nominated in this year’s BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards in the Multiplayer category. Developed by ArenaNet, Guild Wars Factions was released on 28th April earlier this year, when it held the top spot in the PC charts for three consecutive weeks.

Dirk Metzger, marketing director, NCsoft Europe says: “We are proud to have a game that has not only garnered critical acclaim, but also dominated the software charts. Often, games only succeed on one front. With another campaign in the series nearly finished, the Guild Wars universe continues to go from strength to strength. We are greatly looking forward to launching Guild Wars Nightfall in October.”

Guild Wars Factions and the first campaign in the series, Guild Wars Prophecies, are subscription-free online RPGs. The Guild Wars franchise has sold more than two million copies worldwide, and recently become a massively popular e-sport, attracting tens of thousands of competing players from all around the world. This year alone has seen two global tournaments, the Guild Wars World Championship and Factions World Championship, netting winning guilds a share of more than $US200,000 prize money.

The next campaign in the series, Guild Wars Nightfall, will be released on 27th October, and will continue to offer the leading edge in online gaming.

No word on whether rumours of a Best Art Direction award nomination are true, but we all know, in our hearts, that Factions deserves it.
