John Woo Takes On Metroid

John Woo has optioned the rights to Nintendo's Metroid for the big screen. A company optioned the rights for a Metroid film in 2003 but let the rights expire at which point Tiger Hill stepped in and optioned the rights from Nitnendo.

Woo also has the option to direct the movie but at this stage is only confirmed to Produce. Terence Chang and Brad Foxhoven will share production responsibilities with Woo.

"Everyone involved is looking at this as a big-budget picture," Foxhoven said. "We see a tremendous opportunity to launch a film franchise with Nintendo as a partner."

"We are very fortunate that there is such an extensive amount of material to draw upon for the film due to there being so many iterations of the game over the years,"
Woo said.

Nintendo is set to unveil Metroid Prime 2 - Tentative Title to the gaming public on May 11 at its E3 press conference.

Tiger Hill is also overseeing the development of three projects, two of which will also be unveiled to the public at E3 and the other closer to its release. John Woo is also working on these three titles overseeing the games cinematics, stories and voice talents.
