Okami is a game I have been looking forward to playing through a second time. Despite all best intentions, the second play through is something I have been procrastinating. For the longest time, I thought I would pick it up on Wii and play it again. The Wii version came and went without me purchasing it. So why have I been putting it off? Two reasons, firstly I haven’t had much time for games lately, and secondly, for the same reason I waited a few years before watching the LOTR films again, so it wouldn’t be so fresh in my mind. Well I still don’t have the Wii game, so a quick visit to my PS2 shelf gets things going.
Actually, again I dodge the real point – Maybe I wouldn’t enjoy it as much a second time, would that destroy my fond memories of the game? Only one way to tell I guess. I have to admit, I had my doubts for the first hour of the game or so, but once the game started opening up again – I was addicted all over again. Now here I am, sitting here with a controller in my hand, red eyed. This hasn’t happened for ages, in fact, I think the last time I wrote off an entire day to gaming was over a year ago. The first time I played through Okami.

Despite the PlayStation 2 being even older than it was when Okami was first released, the visuals still look fantastic. Timeless in fact. Everything is crisp, colourful and the sky has that wonderful paper texture. Every location is a joy to behold. The music in the game is often overlooked and is every bit as stylish and atmospheric as the games visuals. Okami is one polished game.
I actually imagined my second time through the game being a much quicker experience, running from objective to objective instead of basking in the virtual world, exploring every corner. Well despite sinking most of a day into the game I am only up to Tsuta Ruins. I have spent the day feeding animals, running in circles, speaking to characters and collecting demon fangs. It’s true, I can never experience Okami again for the first time, but fortunately things are just as sweet the second time around.
Well, I planned to go over a few more things in this blog, but Okami is calling me back. Every corner a voice in my head is whispering ‘best game ever’ and I am inclined to believe it. I feel like a kid that just got his imagination back. Maybe I will 100% it this time?

Played Okami? Share your thoughts here. Yet to play it? Do I really need to tell you to buy it?
