Near the games opening you're greeted with the line "Welcome to Rapture", were this the way they opened another game, say, Metroid Prime 3 or Halo 3, it'd be quite fitting. Here, however, it's quite out of place. Bioshock, and hype and press behind it, promised an immersive world with a great story, what we got though, was a good looking game with average been-there-done-that gameplay.

The atmosphere that so many speak of was handled far better in games like Doom 3, and it's immersion far superior in any Metroid series. I don't mean to review the game based on comparison, but BioShock fails to deliver outside of great graphics and some nice audio.

Better save your Xbox dollars for Halo 3.
