Why wasn't Tenchu Z Good?

I like stealth, I like ninja's, and I like killing virtual people... So how come someone has not yet made a decent game including all of these things?

"But, Reuben!" I hear you cry "Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid!" True, those two more well-known titles are somewhat ninja-ish but the actually come under the genre of Tactical Espionage.. Not the hardcore japanese super-ninja genre.

Tenchu Z was the closest I experienced to a decent ninja-orientated game. At the same time I was let down by the horrible construction of it all. It almost seems as if the code for Tenchu on the PS1 was magically unearthed and had somehow snuck its way onto the 360.

The graphics were ugly, the controls were awkward, and the A.I. consisted of some of thedumbest programming I have ever seen... Yet I enjoyed the game...

..You know why? Formula

It was the closest to the original Tenchu than any other title before it. Only this time you had more features. If developers can stick to a good formula for a game and also create it well then the quality of the games you and I willplay inthe future will be ten-fold compared to some of the crap wehave now.

That is why I'm liking the look of Diablo III right now...

I really enjoyed the original Tenchu on the PlayStation. It had that real 'stealth' feel to it, which is almost a little missing in some of the 'stealth' games of today.

It was fun stabbing people from behind, and the ridiculous amounts of blood. But after a few levels you realise every building is the same, and every mission requires you to do the same things. It becomes very monotonous.

And the fact that half the time it was easier to be non-ninja!

Since Tenchu 2 it's been pretty much downhill. So sad considering how damn good T2 was.

Tenchu on PlayStaion rocked. More stealth games need to be like that
