It amazes me how pathetic Sony-Square Enix fanboys have become since E3. The amount of desperate thinking clogging our series of tubes during the recent DK Σ3713 private party was nothing short of tragic. You had fans turning the logo all kinds of ways to make Remake7; you had people unwilling to accept that everything has been shown; you had fans claiming the secret announcement wasn't a demo of XIII for the PS3. In short, you have denial.
Partly, I blame Shane from 1up. He was the one that said that the pendulum would swing back to Sony at this event. In fact, on the last podcast he revealed that this "shock" was to do with the Advent Children Blu-Ray disc. But Shane is a shameless Sony fanboy who clings to every little thing and overhypes it beyond belief. He's no better than half the fanboys on the Internet, but because he's in a professional position, people cling to his every word. Unfortunately, more often than not by doing this they set themselves up for disappointment. (Matt Cassamania from IGN is the Nintendo equivalent. Megaton, anyone?)
And this disappointment manifests itself in even more pathetic ways. Now, unable to accept that a demo was the shock announcement, people are starting to make rumours that Kingdom Hearts III will be shown at the end of the event. It will be a "shock" announcement, to "shock and betray" 360 fans just like Square Enix "shocked and betrayed" PlayStation fans. With no sign of a Final Fantasy VII remake in sight, people are getting desperate.
The worst thing about this is that it's not even about the games anymore. It's about dick-waving one-upsmanship, trying to outdo the competition. PlayStation fans needed Final Fantasy VII not for the game, but to have some sort of superior surprise. It doesn't matter that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is PS3 exclusive; it has to be a surprise.
Of course, I'm not even going to comment on the comments of betrayal or how Square Enix left those who made them. These people, obviously born post-1992, probably haven't realised that it was Square Enix who made the PlayStation. Had they stayed with Nintendo, the world would have been a different place.
Ultimately, it's just pathetic and I wanted to rant in my blog. It's actually quite sad that these fanboys almost feel like their console is worthless because Final Fantasy XIII is coming to the Xbox 360 and how one announcement can throw a bunch of fanboys into despair. It just goes to show how much emphasis was placed on that game...
Sony fans did really well at DK Σ3713. The 3rd Birthday for PSP (which I actually thought was the "shock announcement" at first) is really exciting, and Agito XIII for the PSP is also a nice announcement. There's also a worldwide release for Versus XIII, and the best version of Advent Children will only be on Blu-Ray and it will include a demo of XIII. Compared to what Nintendo and Microsoft got, Sony fans made out like bandits. But of course, it doesn't matter because there was no shock announcement to wave in peoples faces...
Fanboys make me sick...
