Final Fantasy XII

One aspect that will never die is power leveling. To beat bosses, and fill up the licence grid (just like the sphere grid of FFX) you need to fight fight fight. However unlike every previous Final Fantasy game this is not as easy as it once was. Thanks to the new live battle system, you can't just run around in a circle fighting random battles every ten seconds with one hand while you do something more productive with the other. Instead you have to actively look for enemies. It can be a real pain. As a trade off, you can rack up a successive kill count, i.e. by the time you've consistantly killed 99 skeletons the loot you receive can fetch some high prices. Which brings up another point. The only way to make money really is to sell 'loot' rather than just get cash from monsters. The snag being that specific loot is required to unlock certain items.

That said, it is of course, a very beautiful game, the cutscenes will leave you droolling. Similarly, there is Fran. Even out of FMV, the graphics are excellent. Though still, there is very little environmental interaction. Areas such as the desert are conviniently closed off by cliffs, the plains by small rocks, etc. If only they would make the FF world take some damage. Combined with the live battles, you could chuck them into or off a cliff. In any case, if you are going to make one radical change, you might as well make some more.

This game will last you a very very long time.
